In Chinese mythology, Pangu is famous as the god who created the world. He was born in the beginning period of the mythological world and was the origin of everything. At the beginning, there was no division between heaven and earth, and the world was just a piece of emptiness without any matter. Out of this chaos came a god named Pangu, who slept for eighteen thousand years. When Pangu woke up, his body continued to grow, but all around him was covered with chaos and darkness. Pangu opened his huge palm to split it, and with a loud noise, he broke the egglike chaos and emerged, causing chaos to be separated into two different vitality: clear and cloudy. The lighter clear qi rose upward and became clear sky, while the heavier cloudy qi fell down and became land. After standing on the ground for a long time, about eighteen thousand years passed, Pangu grew bigger and bigger, the sky became higher and the earth became thicker, tens of thousands of miles apart, and finally the heaven and earth became stable, and Pangu also exhausted his divine power and fell. After Pangu died, everything in the world was changed from his body parts and organs, his eyes became the sun and the moon, and his breath became the wind and cloud. Voice becomes thunder, limbs become mountains and rivers, muscles become farmland, bones become rocks, blood becomes rivers, lakes and seas, etc.
Pangu Mountain is located at the border of Tongbai and Biyang counties in Henan Province, with an altitude of 459 meters. It is said that this mountain is the place where Pangu, the god who created the world, created mankind and created all things. Pangu Mountain is lofty and tall, towering into the clouds. In order to commemorate the legendary ancestor of human Pangu, people built a Pangu temple on the peak, and there are sculptures of Pangu in the temple.
Pangu TEMPLE, is the temple to worship the ancestor of human Pangu, located in the southwest of Tongbai County Pangu Creek upstream, the scale of the grand dome type Pangu temple according to the mountain to the south, the hall is placed in the giant Pangu bronze statue. Before and below the hall, there are Fuxi Hall on the right, Nuwa Hall on the left, and Pangu Square under the hall.
In the 1980s, some scholars visited the Pangu Mountain and Pangu Temple in Tongbai Mountain, Henan Province, and the myth that "Pangu was born, opened up heaven and earth, mending heaven, fighting floods, eliminating fierce beasts and inventing clothes". Pangu mythology group in Tongbai COUNTY and Biyang COUNTY mainly includes the creation myth, the myth of human origin, the myth of punishing evil and rewarding good, and the myth of benefiting descendants, which reflects the primitive ancestors' worship of nature and the primitive cosmology of the ancestors.
Pangu Mountain, 15 kilometers south of Biyang County, is the place where the legend says Pangu created the world and created all things. At the Pangu Temple Fair on the third day of the third lunar month every year, tens of thousands of people come from far and wide to worship Pangu. Biyang County has built this traditional temple fair into a Pangu cultural festival integrating culture, tourism, economic development, searching for roots and paying homage to ancestors, and displaying the image of Biyang.
